    * A score of 550 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or

  • Brief Description:

    The five-year medical programme is divided into 3 phases. Phase 1 consists of the first two years of the programme involving integrated teaching and learning of the relevant basic medical sciences. Phase II (Year 3) and Phase III (Year 4 and Year 5) involves clinical skills development and subsequently consolidation of clinical clerkship in the various clinical disciplines. The Islamic input topics are integrated throughout the 5-year course.

    Programme Description
    Throughout the course; active and independent learning of the relevant disciplines will be encouraged. This will be facilitated by studying the recommended texts complemented by laboratory practical sessions; small group teaching; tutorials; student seminars; lectures; interactive museum exhibits; visits and computer-aided learning. Most topics are taught in a multi-disciplinary approach. Selected topics that are of importance are discussed as seminars.
    During the clinical years; emphasis is placed on apprenticeship training complemented partly by didactic teaching. Students will form integral parts of units to which they will be attached and participate in learning activities as a group. In this phase; our training aims to further instil team work; good communication skills and positive attitude.

    The SEGi University Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme is designed for students who believe that they can make a difference in the lives of others through better health by being a safe, caring and exceptional doctor. This 5-year medical programme prepares aspiring doctors for a challenging career ranging from promotive, preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative medicine.

    The SEGi University Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme consists of three phases.

    In Phase One (2 Years), students are exposed to basic medical sciences covering subjects including Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathology, Medical Microbiology and Medical Parasitology, as well as Community Medicine and early clinical exposure in an integrated system approach.

    In Phase Two (1 Year), students will begin their early clinical clerkship with one year of rotational posting in basic life support, internal medicine, surgery and women’s health.

    In Phase 3 (2 Years), students are further exposed to senior clerkship which covers two years in various clinical disciplines, namely community based medicine, internal medicine, paediatrics, surgery, orthopaedics and psychiatric, as well as other specialised fields of medicine which includes forensic medicine.

    Students are also facilitated to develop their soft skills in communication, social responsibility, team-building, critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership and management throughout their five years of studies.

    Graduates of the SEGi University MBBS programme who wish to work as a doctor in Malaysia are required to undertake further training beyond the medical degree. Upon successful completion of the MBBS programme, students will have to apply to the Ministry of Health Malaysia to complete their housemanship, which will be done in a public hospital. Upon successful completion of their housemanship, students will then required to complete a three-year compulsory service in either a hospital or clinic under the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

    Once students have successfully completed their housemanship, their three-year compulsory service and obtained full registration to practice, graduates can opt to study postgraduate specialist degree programmes, which are available in a range of areas including surgery, general practice, obstetrics, paediatrics and psychiatry, just to name a few. There is a wide range of medical career paths available and options will become apparent as students progress through the programme.

    The history of SEGi can be traced to its first education centre located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1977. With over 30 years of its strong and established presence in the Malaysia education scene, SEGi received its University College status in 2008 and its University status in 2012.

  • Brief Description:

    The MBBS Program is offered through the Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine at the custom-built Sunway campus in Bandar Sunway and the new Clinical School in Johor Bahru. To date it is the only Medical course outside Australia and New Zealand to have received the accreditation of the Australian Medical Council.

    The medical curriculum provides an interdisciplinary program; organised to provide integration of structure and function within the biomedical sciences. An emphasis on clinical communication skills and early clinical contact visits to medical practices; community care facilities and hospitals; is a feature of the Monash course.

  • Remarks:

    With over ten years of presence in Malaysia; the Sunway campus of Monash University is an exemplar of transnational education. The current campus was purpose-built in 2007 at a cost of some RM200m. At present there are some 5100 students and 500 staff; with growth projected to lead to over 6000 students and 600 staff.     The Taylor's University Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a five-year programme to equip students with knowledge in the basic medical sciences for first 2 years and 3 years exposure to clinical medicine. The home-grown medical programme at Taylor's University is an integrated problem-based curriculum with departmental clinical rotations in the clinical years.

    Phase I of the Taylor's University MBBS programme (Year 1 and 2)  covers basic medical sciences with introductory clinical exposure. Foundations in communication skills, medical ethics and community health will be spread across the phase. Students will also be introduced to medical research.     The International Medical University (IMU) MBBS programme is structured in two phases: Phase 1 - Medical Sciences and Phase 2 - Clinical Training.

     
    Phase 1 (Medical Sciences)
    This phase of 5 semesters (2 1/2 years) focuses on the Medical Sciences and is undertaken at the University's campus in Bukit Jalil.
     
    Completion of Phase 1 in Malaysia enables all students to become familiar with local health conditions and facilities in rural and urban settings. From the second Semester, students gain early clinical exposure at Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar Seremban, Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital and other government health centres and private clinics in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.
     
    Phase 2 (Clinical Training)
    On completion of Phase 1, students proceed to Phase 2 which focuses on clinical training. Students may choose to undertake this training either at the IMU Clinical School in Seremban or at a Partner Medical Schools (PMS) overseas. The overseas duration varies from 2 to 3 years - IMU MBBS Degree Transfer Programme
     
    Note: Students are to choose where to take their Phase 2 option at the time of application and this option is indicated on the letter offering a place.
     
    Housemanship Training 
    Upon successful completion of the medical course, all medical graduates will have to complete an internship or housemanship, which can be done in Malaysia or in some countries overseas.
     
    All Malaysian students who graduate as doctors through the IMU are eligible for housemanship positions in Malaysia. Please note that the laws pertaining to employment are subject to change. The IMU student who graduates from any of IMU Partner Medical Schools (PMS) can apply to the Malaysian Ministry of Health for a housemanship position in Malaysia. In, Malaysia, the internship is for 2 years. 
     
    Presently, those who graduate from the UK are eligible to apply for housemanship positions in the UK. 
    Graduates from Ireland can apply for housemanship positions in Ireland or take the Proficiency and Language Assessment Board (PLAB) examination and apply to work in UK. 
     
    Those who graduate from the United States and Canada can apply for residency positions in the United States if they pass the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2. IMU Canadian graduates cannot undertake internship in Canada.
     
    IMU MBBS Degree Recognition
    The IMU will award the medical degree of MBBS (IMU) to students in their Clinical School. This degree is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) formerly known as National Accreditation Board (Lembaga Akreditasi Negara or LAN). The degree is listed in the World Health Organisation (WHO) directory of medical schools.
     
    The Partner Medical Schools (PMS) will award degrees to students in their respective training programmes. Degrees from these schools are recognised internationally and locally by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) for full registration.
