The SEGi University Bachelor of Optometry (Hons) programme is fully accredited by the Malaysian Optical Council and Malaysian Qualifications Agency.
The excellent track record of its academic staff who have been in private optometric education since 2004 speaks for itself. Its laboratory and clinical facilities are on par with overseas institutions that offer the undergraduate Optometry programme. This programme is run by full-time optometrically qualified lecturers while also drawing on the expertise of external/visiting lecturers comprising Biomedical scientists, Medical Practitioners, Ophthalmic Surgeons and Practising Optometrists.
Clinical training of students are carried out both at internal clinics on campus and external sites ranging from private Optometric practices, Refractive Surgery Centres, private Ophthalmologic clinics and Hospital Eye departments.
The SEGi University Bachelor of Optometry (Hons) programme aims to produce graduates who are not only competent clinically in the art and science of eye care but also with an excellent know-how of the business of vision care in a wider perspective.
Graduates have the opportunity to work in government hospitals, private practices, ophthalmic or contact lens industry, research and also tertiary education.
The history of SEGi can be traced to its first education centre located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur; Malaysia in 1977. With over 30 years of its strong and established presence in the Malaysia education scene; SEGi received its University College status in 2008 and its University status in 2012.
