  • Brief Description:
    The SEGi University Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Chemical Engineering programme has been designed to produce capable engineer graduates for industries related to chemical engineering in the global market.
     
    Students will learn the necessary technical competence required of the discipline and will be trained to model problems, formulate solutions based on a system approach, conduct research and obtain many other qualities instilled through the degree programme.
     
    The SEGi University Chemical Engineering Degree has been approved by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC), which makes it recognised by the Washington Accord, of which Malaysia is already a member of. The Washington Accord is an international agreement among bodies responsible for accrediting engineering degree programmes. It recognises the substantial equivalency of programmes accredited by those bodies and recommends that graduates of programmes accredited by any of the signatory bodies be recognized by the other bodies as having met the academic requirements for entry to the practice of engineering.
     
    Upon completion of the programme, gradautes may find job opportunities in the areas of chemical and allied products, environmental engineering, contracting, oil and gas, consultancy, pharmaceuticals, energy, F&B, materials and design, and much more.

    The UCSI University B.Eng (Hons) Chemical Engineering is designed to equip students with a solid foundation and the knowledge of chemistry, physics, mathematics, mechanical and electrical engineering and their applications to the industry.
     
    The programme encompasses a well-balanced curriculum that focuses on the development of theoretical concepts, practical engineering skills and teamwork. It covers a wide range of subjects that includes foundation of chemistry, industrial chemistry, mass and heat transfer, surface chemistry and catalysis, polymer technology, environmental engineering and abatement processes, petrochemical industries, natural gas technology, corrosion, reaction engineering and design, fuel and combustion, particle technology, geosciences, petroleum and natural gas reservoir and management and economy.
     
    Students will undergo industrial training under the UCSI University Co-Operative Placement (Co-Op) Programme in the third semester of each year to learn from and familiarise themselves with the real life working environment. Towards the end of the course of study, students will undertake a two-semester final year project to assess their understanding and the outcome of their formal education.
     
    All UCSI University engineering degree programmes comply with the latest requirements for accreditation by the Malaysian Engineering Accreditation Council which fulfils the international requirements drafted in the Washington Accord.

  • Brief Description:
    Chemical Engineering is concerned with the design and operation of processes for making a wide range of products on which everyone's standard of living depends. These include food, fuel, medicines, plastics and the basic materials for high technology industries. Once a chemical, biological or physical process has been successfully accomplished on the laboratory scale, professional engineering skills are required to translate it into industrial practice which is safe, economically viable and environmentally acceptable.
     
    Programme Educational Objectives:
    * Provide undergraduate engineering students with the fundamental technical knowledge and skills in mathematics, science, and engineering to recognise, analyse and solve problems, and to apply these abilities to the generation of new knowledge, ideas or products in industry or government, and to implement these solutions in practice
    * Provide undergraduate engineering students with the necessary instruction and practical exposure to work well in multidisciplinary team environments and to be effective written and oral communicators, both for communicating ideas to other people, mentoring, and for learning from others.
    * Produce graduates that recognise the importance of and engage in life-long learning, whether through self-study, continuing education courses or workshops, or through formal graduate level education and encourage others to have this same motivation.
    * Produce graduates that have an understanding of ethical responsibility and service toward their peers, employers, and society and follow these precepts in their daily lives.

    * Ability to apply the knowledge of the theories and practices underlying engineering in a chemical engineering context.

    * Ability to use modern computational tools for technical problem solving, including, computers and software.
    * Ability to function successfully in multidisciplinary teams.
    * Ability to identify, formulate and solve both well-defined and open-ended engineering problems.
    * Understanding of professional and ethical responsibility as an engineer including safety and environmental concerns.
    * Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in a written way in both technical and non-technical styles
    * Ability to manage and utilise resources (energy, raw materials, etc..) effectively
    * Understanding of the engineering properties of different conventional and non-conventional materials
    * Recognising the importance of lifelong learning and continuous maintenance, updating, and improvement of technical
    * Adequate knowledge of project management.
    * Adequate knowledge of business skills for engineers including the financial and legal aspects of doing business and E-Commerce.
